Japandi Inspired Kitchen

A space that combines durability, function and style.

‘Japandi’ Inspired Kitchen

Set in a picturesque South Leicestershire village, the owners of this Georgian style property wanted to implement a contemporary style kitchen, which would balance with the traditional features throughout the house.

Originally two separate  rooms, our builders removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room to create one open plan space. Patio doors were installed to 'bring the outside in' and improve the views out into the garden.

Using a combination of natural tones such as cashmere and walnut we were able to replicate the ‘Japandi’ style our clients envisioned, inspired by their travels.

The cabinetry comprises simplistic, slimline profiled doors in a silk matt finish, which were our own bespoke design and were hand made in our workshop. The cashmere is enhanced by a walnut accent. Quartz worksurfaces with a golden vein were chosen to compliment the warm palette as well as dark metalwork on the tap, appliances and handles.

The adjoining utility room was equipped with resilient materials chosen to withstand the demands of daily use. Every element was thoughtfully selected to ensure longevity and ease of maintenance. Its proximity to the kitchen meant that aesthetic appeal couldn’t be ignored, resulting in a space that combines durability, function and style.

Design Highlights

“I loved working on this design and there are  so many features and details that I think are worthy of special attention. A bank of tall units can feel dominant in a kitchen so the way we have partially recessed and suspended these cabinets makes them feel less imposing.

There is a larder unit disguised within the surrounding panels too, to make sure this feature wasn’t at the expense of functional storage. It was also very important to me to preserve the original features of the building, so incorporating the archway with suspended shelving I feel has been a huge success and the recessed lighting shows it off so well.”

Client Comments

“Our designer Sam was able to realise our vision perfectly, and the quality of the building work and installation is very impressive. The kitchen is both stylish and functional, I love my ‘walnut wall’ and the hidden cupboard which is a fantastic use of the space. We requested taller units so they were at a more comfortable working height, none of which was too much trouble for the team to incorporate. We have been able to greatly increase our preparation area and add useful features like a larger sink with all its accessories. Overall, we are so pleased with the attention to detail and precision of the manufacture.

Thank you.”
