Tailored, Feature Window Seat
This window seat was designed to create a calm, inviting corner in an open-plan kitchen, specifically within the designated snug area. Made from MFC in Natural Casella Oak, it complements the accent finish of the kitchen furniture perfectly. To accommodate the seat, the client converted what was planned as French patio doors into a fixed window. With access to the garden amply covered by bi-folding doors and a back door in the utility room, the extra doors were deemed surplus to requirements but the large window was kept to allow natural light to enter the space.
The window seat transforms this corner into a quiet reading nook, enhanced with a soft overhead lamp for evening use. Its position within the snug creates a sense of separation while remaining visually and functionally connected to the wider space. The result is a tailored, integrated feature that adds both practicality and a sense of comfort, blending seamlessly with the kitchen's material palette. A thoughtfully designed moment of stillness in a busy, multi-functional living area.
